YAY! Nicole's back and I'm back beside her! This morning was a much needed reunion! And being that today is Monday, Nicole was glad to see me in my widget!
I started out our session with laps in the widget. Pumping the wudget-rods forwards, really helps to get my blood flowin', I made a big circle, around the TRX and between the pole and the wall. I did about 5 laps forward, 5 laps gooing backwards, and 5 laps going counter-clockwise. My biceps were definitely feeling it by the last lap!
Now, there's a good thing about having a personal trainer...and there's a frustrating thing, It's good that you are able to break-up your workout, giving specific muscle groups time to "take a breather." That's what we did with the widget laps. I gave my arms a break after the 5 backwards laps, to workout my leg muscles. I did some leg-lifts, which is much more challenging in the smaller, manual wheelchair! In my power wheelchair, I have a higher backrest, headrest, and wider, taller armrests. The widget wheelchair has a lower backrest, no headrest, and thinner, lower armrests. It's more of my "exercise wheelchair." So, with less support, I was forced to use my abdominal muscles more.
Nicole also had me raise my knees up. This exercise really works your abs! Try it. Sit in a chair with no armrests, and bring both of your knees off the chair simultaneously...Repeat 'til your abs tell you they're done!
Then, Nicole had me lift the right leg, and raise the left knee up. Like the amazing person that I am ;), I was able to do it! I held the right leg out straight, while my left knee bent up...high enough so that my left foot was a couple inches below the seat cushion. It was hard, but the results were worth it!
Remember how I mentioned that there is a frustrating part to having a personal trainer? Well, here it is: Having a pt means that exercises are never forgotten! :) Nicole had me continue to the counter-clockwise laps directly after my leg workout. I love how I feel after our sesions, but in the moment I'm thinkin' DAMN her memory! ;)
With the finality of the widget laps, Nicole pulled up a chair in front of me and I got ready for more leg workouts. This time around, Nicole had me lift the right leg and bend the lift knee up, AND switch it up by bending the right knee up, and lifting the left leg straight out. I was asked to keep one leg lifted, while I bent the other knee up for a set of 10. Exhausting!
I then tried pushing myself up/out of the widget by the armrests, but that didn't go too well...the manual w.chair is signifigantly lighter than the power w.chair, so it tiped backwards when I tried to push up/out of it! Lol. That's ok...we'll just try it again on Wednesday or something!
